The Movie Psychic is an account-free movie, TV and video-game recommendation tool. It does not ask for your name or email address and does not create a personal viewing or gaming profile. The Movie Psychic will never skew its results for an advertiser, sponsor, affiliate, or other commercial relationship: its recommendations are 100% independent and based off the alignment of the stars and your psychic aura.

Information processed when you use the tool

When you request recommendations, the movie, TV or game titles you enter are sent to The Movie Psychic's server. The server processes those titles through OpenAI to build recommendations. Movie and TV titles are processed through TMDB to recognise titles and obtain metadata, and recommendation metadata may also be sent to OMDb to retrieve IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Game titles are processed through IGDB to recognise games and obtain canonical identifiers, covers, ratings, platforms and official store links. DLC, add-ons and non-standalone expansions are excluded.

These services receive the information needed to fulfil the request. The Movie Psychic does not intentionally send them your name, email address, or an account identifier because the service does not collect those details.

Country, availability and store pricing

The hosting platform may provide a two-letter country code derived from the request network address. If that is unavailable, the browser may use its timezone or language to choose a country. This country is used to request region-appropriate movie and TV streaming, rental and purchase availability from TMDB. For games, it is used to build appropriate storefront links and request regional Steam and GOG prices when they are available. Steam receives the IGDB-supplied Steam application identifier and country code. When IGDB does not provide a usable GOG link, the server may search GOG using the canonical game title; GOG pricing requests contain the matched product identifier and country code. These storefront requests are made by the server rather than directly from your browser, and neither request includes your raw network address.

The browser stores the selected country code and whether you chose it manually in local storage. This keeps your availability and pricing preference between visits. You can change it at any time from the Availability selector. The site does not store precise location data.

After a successful movie or TV reading, the current page temporarily holds a signed token containing the recognised favourite metadata and aggregate taste profile. If you select More, the browser sends it back so the server can avoid repeating that analysis. The token expires after 30 minutes, is not written to local or session storage, and is discarded when the page is reloaded, reset, or switched between movies, TV and games. The server does not keep a corresponding user session.

Rate limiting and server records

To limit automated abuse and unexpected API costs, recommendation, sharing, availability, ratings and game-store requests are subject to temporary rate limits. The request network address is converted to a keyed one-way hash before a short-lived counter is written to the site's Redis service. If that service is temporarily unavailable, the server uses a per-instance memory counter as a fallback. The application does not store the raw network address in its rate-limit records, and the counters expire automatically after their applicable limit window.

Vercel and other infrastructure providers may process request information, including network addresses and technical logs, as part of operating and securing the hosted service.

Analytics, advertising, and cookies

The Movie Psychic keeps aggregate popularity counts for titles that have been successfully recognised by TMDB or IGDB. It separately counts canonical movie, TV and game favourites used for an initial reading and canonical titles returned as recommendations. The popularity store contains the TMDB or IGDB ID, canonical title, release year, media type, category, and total count. It also keeps an aggregate count of successful initial Recommend requests, with movie TV and game subtotals. Short-lived daily aggregate buckets are retained for 21 days to calculate and compare public rolling seven-day charts. Once-daily Insights snapshots contain derived aggregate statistics and are retained for up to 400 days for quarterly and annual comparisons. They do not contain raw or rejected input, event-level histories, network addresses, names, email addresses, account identifiers, device identifiers, or persistent visitor identifiers.

The public all-time and weekly charts show ranked aggregate titles only after a title has been counted at least three times in the relevant period. The application does not use these counts to build individual profiles or alter recommendation ranking. It does not record Watch or Buy clicks.

During advertising layout testing, the site displays labelled placeholders only. These placeholders do not load Google advertising code, request an advertisement, or set advertising cookies. If production advertising is enabled, the site will use Google AdSense to provide responsive display advertisements. Google and its advertising partners may process device information, network addresses, browser information, ad interactions, cookies, and similar technologies to deliver, limit, personalise, and measure advertising, subject to the choices available to you.

Where consent is required, the site uses a Google-certified consent management flow integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework before eligible advertising is served. That flow explains the relevant purposes and providers and lets you accept, reject, or manage available choices. A privacy-options entry supplied with the consent flow allows you to revisit those choices. Outside regions where consent is required, applicable Google advertising controls and local law continue to apply.

Outbound links

Recommendation cards can link to IMDb, TMDB-provided watch destinations, JustWatch search pages, IGDB, Steam, GOG, console storefronts and other official game stores. When you follow an external link, that service receives a normal web request and applies its own privacy policy. The current links are not represented as affiliate links or a paid partnership.

Sharing a reading

If you choose Share, the site formats up to twenty recognised favourites and the first five recommendations currently displayed on your device. When the share preview is prepared, that reading—including its titles, poster and destination URLs, confidence ratings, and original recommendation reasoning—is stored under a random link for 90 days. The record is automatically deleted when that period expires.

Anyone who has the random link can view the stored reading, so you should treat it like any other shareable link. Shared readings are not used to create personal viewing or gaming profiles or alter recommendation rankings, and the share pages instruct search engines not to index them. Nothing is sent to another person automatically, and The Movie Psychic does not receive the destination or person with whom you share the link.

Streaming, rental, and purchase availability data is supplied by JustWatch through the TMDB API.

Game metadata, covers, ratings, platforms and store links are supplied by IGDB.

Regional Steam prices are requested from Steam when available.
